Emergency Retail Store Cooling Cape Town
Chill Out supplied temporary indoor cooling solutions at The Alfred Mall, located within the V&A Waterfront, Cape Town, following an air conditioning system failure affecting multiple retail stores.
LW Refrigeration & Air Conditioning contracted Chill Out to arrange deployment and provide immediate supplementary cooling while repair work was underway.
The Alfred Mall forms part of the V&A Waterfront’s premium retail environment. The mall houses a range of international and high-end brands within a semi-enclosed shopping space. With the mall’s central air conditioning system compromised, internal temperatures within several stores increased significantly, requiring urgent intervention to maintain acceptable shopping conditions.
As a result, we recommended Medium-size Evaporative Air Coolers. Our team allocated each unit to a separate retail store, ensuring targeted airflow within affected spaces rather than attempting to cool the broader mall environment.
Cooling Setup Details

Delivery and installation of the equipment took place on Sunday, 1 February 2026, under urgent conditions. What initially began as a short-term one-month rental extended by an additional month due to the ongoing nature of the air conditioning repairs. In addition, the units remained operational until 13 March 2026, when full HVAC functionality was restored and equipment was collected.
Air conditioning failures in retail environments require immediate and reliable backup solutions to maintain customer comfort and protect in-store trading conditions. Targeted evaporative cooling offers a practical interim solution while permanent systems are restored.
